The view is SW towards North Wales across Lancashire and the Cheshire plain. On a clear evening the mountains of North Wales are visible in the far distance outlined against the sunset.

Formby is situated on the Lancashire coast just North of Liverpool. It is well known for it's miles of beautifull sandy beaches backed by acres of sandunes and forest, forming a nature reserve, with rare red squirrels and natterjack toads.
At the edge of the shoreline as the tide recedes, ancient deposits are revealed and in these deposits 5000 year old trackways of red deer and man have been found. The soft deposits are constantly being eroded so these fleeting glimpses of the distant past must be quickly recorded and where possible plaster casts taken.
